The institutes of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS) offer interested parties from both the corporate and public sectors a wide range of one-off professional services based on their cutting-edge research and long-standing experience. These services include analyses, measurements, assessments, solution proposals, feasibility verification, and expert consultations.

These services are provided on the basis of individual agreements and are available to companies as well as public and state institutions seeking a reliable partner with access to modern laboratory facilities and expertise in various scientific fields.

The SAS Technology Transfer Office (TTO SAS):

  • will advise you on which consulting service offered by SAS organizations is best suited to your request,
  • will verify the current workload and availability of the service,
  • will put you in contact with the department of the relevant SAS organization that provides the service,
  • will remain available, if needed, to help address any questions that may arise during the provision of the service.

Genetic manipulation of microorganisms PK-19-001

Biotechnologies and Microorganisms

Modification of yeasts and bacteria for production of lipophilic substances (e.g. squalene, fatty acids), and other metabolites.

Equipment: microbiology equipment (shakers, incubators, sterille boxes), PCR, cloning, RT-qPCR, electrophoresis systems, basic analytical equipment

Glycomic and proteomic analysis of medical samples PK-20-004

Analytical and Diagnostic Methods | Biomedicine, MedTech and Health

Structural glycan analysis via mass spectrometry and their role in human health and disease; proteomic studies; usage in rare disease diagnosis methodologies. Service is supplied by a unique labpratory within Slovakia.

Equipment: HRMS, MALDI TOF/TOF, Orbitrap-type MS, GC-MS, HPLC-MS, lectin microarray

Lipid and fatty acid analysis PK-19-003

Quantitative and qualitative analysis of phospholipids, sterols, sterol esters, and fatty acids.

Measurement of cell properties using Raman microscopy PK-05-003

Analytical and Diagnostic Methods

2D/3D in vitro or tissue sample imaging for nanoparticle localization in cells without fluorescent labels. Used to assess the effects of substances/materials on cells and tissues.

Equipment: WITec Alpha300 R+ (confocal Raman microscope), fluorescence microscope

Measurement of cytotoxicity of various substances on cancer and non-cancer cell lines PK-05-005

Biomedicine, MedTech and Health

2D/3D cytotoxicity testing of various substances using cancer and non-cancer cell lines (lung, kidney, intestinal, skin, etc.). Used to evaluate effects on cell viability.

Equipment: Bio-Rad XMark Microplate Spectrophotometer, incubators, CO₂ culture chambers

Measurement of genotoxicity of various substances on cancer and non-cancer cell lines PK-05-006

Biomedicine, MedTech and Health

2D/3D genotoxicity testing of substances on cancer and non-cancer cell lines. Used to evaluate changes in the cell genome.

Equipment: metafer (MetaSystems GmbH) high-performance scanning system

Measurement of selected gene expression in biological samples PK-05-007

Biotechnologies and Microorganisms

RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, qPCR reaction optimization and execution (SYBR Green or TaqMan), normalization to reference genes, and full data analysis.

Microbial and fungal community profiling (metabarcoding) PK-22-006

Amplicon sequencing (metabarcoding) for profiling fungal and microbial communities from environmental or plant samples, including assignment of functional/ecological traits; includes experimental design, bioinformatic processing and data interpretation.

Microbial culture collection services PK-19-002

Biotechnologies and Microorganisms

Long-term storage of risk group I microbial strains in glycerol at −80°C.

Equipment: −80°C freezer

Nanoscale-resolved mapping of absorption spectra PK-05-011

Analytical and Diagnostic Methods

Spatially resolved mapping of absorption spectra (700–5000 cm⁻¹) using s-SNOM and nanoFTIR. Intended for characterization of 2D materials, semiconductor nanostructures, plasmonic and photonic nanostructures, polymers, and biological samples.
