Through its institutes, the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS) offers industrial partners the opportunity to engage in research collaboration across a wide range of scientific fields. Collaboration may take place primarily in the form of contract research or joint research, with SAS institutes providing access to specialized scientific expertise, modern laboratory equipment, and experienced research teams. All research collaboration is tailored to the specific needs and objectives of the partner organization, resulting in solutions with strong application potential.

The SAS Technology Transfer Office (TTO SAS):

  • will identify the team of experts within SAS organizations who can assist in solving your challenge,
  • will verify the capacities and availability of the expert team,
  • will facilitate collaboration between you and the relevant SAS organization,
  • will prepare cooperation agreements if needed, or manage the review and signing process for agreements you provide,
  • will remain available, as necessary, to address any questions that may arise over the course of the research collaboration.

Research on the links between animal nutrition, physiological status and the quality of animal products, with emphasis on food safety and environmental factors. Collaboration may include analysis of biological markers, testing of product quality and recommendations to improve hygiene and sustainability in livestock production.

Recombinant hydrolytic enzymes from carnivorous plants for biotechnological applications PV-22-014

Agriculture and Food Sciences | Biotechnologies and Microorganisms

Preparation, purification and biophysical/biochemical characterisation of recombinant hydrolases (e.g. chitinase, β-1,3-glucanase) derived from carnivorous plants. Collaboration may include identification of activity-modulating ligands and evaluation of enzyme combinations for the control of phytopathogens.

Reconstruction of historical environmental changes using lake sediments PV-24-004

Energy and Environmental Technologies | Modeling, Simulation and Computational Methods

Reconstruction of historical biodiversity development using palaeolimnological methods, determination of reference conditions for lake ecosystems and reconstruction of qualitative and quantitative environmental changes.

Redox biology and ageing processes PV-20-010

Biomedicine, MedTech and Health

Study of redox homeostasis, proteostasis and inflammatory processes as targets for ageing and age-related diseases. Collaboration may involve characterization of biomarkers, testing in cell models and development of preventive or therapeutic strategies.

Reproduction, behaviour and welfare in livestock systems PV-19-001

Research on factors influencing fertility, behaviour and animal welfare to improve reproductive outcomes and reduce losses in production. Collaboration may lead to practical recommendations and management measures for farms.

Self-healing concrete and post-damage restoration PV-15-008

Construction and Structural Materials

Research and development of self-healing concrete systems employing bacterial, encapsulated or immobilised agents to recover mechanical and durability properties after cracking or thermal damage. Cooperation may involve design, experimental testing, simulation and application of self-healing solutions for new or existing structures.

Research and development of semiconductor detectors for ionizing radiation, including design, fabrication, calibration and testing. Collaboration may involve development of new detector types, their optimization and validation for medical and industrial applications.

Experimental and biochemical characterisation of proteins and enzymes relevant to biotechnological and medical applications. Collaboration may include protein preparation and analysis, acquisition of functional data and support for the development of biological or diagnostic products.

Structural enzymology and X-ray crystallography of proteins and enzymes PV-22-013

Analytical and Diagnostic Methods | Biotechnologies and Microorganisms

Determination of protein and enzyme structures by X-ray crystallography, including time-resolved and ligand-bound structures. Collaboration may include identification of ligands that improve enzyme stability and activity, structure–function analysis, and structure-based support for the design of biosensors and biocatalysts.
