Protected IP with the possibility of extending protection
A novel composite adsorbent based on clay minerals and biochar, functionalized with thiol (-SH) groups and designed for selective adsorption of heavy metals from contaminated water and soil. The solution combines mineral and carbon adsorption mechanisms within one homogeneous composite material and is intended primarily for environmental applications in water treatment, remediation and mining.
Competitive advantage
- the combination of clay minerals, biochar and thiol (-SH) functional groups in one homogeneous composite provides a differentiated adsorption platform compared with conventional single-phase adsorbents,
- thiol functionalities support selective adsorption of heavy metals, particularly metals with a high affinity for thiol groups,
- the technology uses readily available mineral and carbon-based raw materials and processing steps suitable for further scale-up,
- potential to expand existing activated-carbon, mineral-adsorbent and specialty-sorbent portfolios with a solution targeting heavy metals.
Use of technology
- industrial wastewater treatment and heavy metal removal,
- remediation of contaminated water, soil and environmentally burdened sites,
- mining and other environmental applications requiring selective capture of heavy metals.
